Speaker Bio
Ama Daetz is weekday evening anchor for ABC7 News at 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. Her passion for journalism and storytelling has taken her around the country, earning the trust of viewers, one story at a time. Some of her most memorable stories have tragic roots, including the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013. While she'll never forget hearing the gunfire in Watertown at police brought the hunt for the bombers to a close, what stood out was the way the neighborhood cheered for authorities as they drove out of town. It announced to the crowd that gathered that the officers were turning the town back over to its residents. It was an emotional moment, and it's those moments in time that are never lost on her. Those are the moments - witnessing humanity, compassion and unity - that she tries to hold onto. Born and raised in San Jose, Ama is a proud graduate of Loyola Marymount University.
